Speech and Language Therapy Department
The speech and language therapy team is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of pupils with a wide range of communication and/or eating, drinking or swallowing difficulties.
The intervention each child receives will depend on their individual need and the impact of their difficulties. Intervention may be provided in a variety of forms, including:-
- individual therapy
- group therapy,
- class based therapy delivered jointly with the class teacher
- a supervised home program
- providing advice and support to parents or education staff.
The team works closely with education staff, other professionals and parents to ensure each child's individual needs are met through an integrated program. This includes joint goal setting and modifying aspects of the environment to maximize learning and inclusion. Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their child's treatment program by carrying out therapy activities at home and meeting the therapist as required.
